Be a mentor, make a difference...
When
children CANNOT speak for themselves, somebody HAS TO speak for them asking for HELP.
Most of Russia's orphans live in closed institutions not knowing
anything about the “real life” outside of orphanage walls. When they
graduate, or rather get kicked out of the orphanages at the age of 18,
they often have no place to stay, nobody to turn to, no good education,
no social skills and no support whatsoever.
In the first year after “graduation” many of them end up committing
suicide or getting into prison, where they at least have a roof over
their heads and free food, almost the way it was in the orphanage.
We would like to give these children HOPE and show them that
their lives are worth something, that people are interested in their
problems and are ready to help them to become a part of this world.
We want to help them to find FRIENDS, real friends, that care,
even from miles away.
Would YOU like to become such a friend to one of these lost
children?
What you first need to do is think about it really hard and be sure of
it! Once you give your promise to start writing to one of the children,
it is NOT FAIR to the child if you break your promise.
The idea is to become a pen pal with one of the children. We will translate your letter to the child and the child’s letter
to you. Volunteers in Russia will deliver your letter in your name to
the child. Alternatively you can of course send post cards with a couple
of words to the child, pictures of yourself, small gifts for birthdays
or Christmas, etc., all of this is up to you.
We will be happy to help you with translating your messages, as long as
it is written in English, German or Swedish. Other languages
will be added eventually, most likely French, Spanish and Italian.
