What is the main goal of our activity?
Every child HAS THE RIGHT to have parents and family. Some parents, for many reasons, don’t want or cannot take care of their children and as a result children in Russia end up in orphanages. There they are being fed and dressed, but many of them will NEVER call someone mother or father. Many of them will NEVER feel what it is like to haven loving and caring parents.
It is not in our power to change the reality, but we try, with your help, to make their lives happier. We are looking for people that want to become personal mentors/pen pals or friends for Russian orphans.
Before you make the decision to become a mentor/pen pal you have to keep in mind that individual care for a child takes more involvement and demands more responsibility from you then other sorts of aid (such as monetary). You cannot begin to correspond with a child and suddenly stop it, especially if the child got attached to you and loves you. Please remember: these kids already suffered enough in their short lives, we do not want to increase their pain.
We do understand that life is life and things that would prevent you from being a pen-pal/mentor can happen. If such a situation should arise please contact us as soon as possible so we can find the child a new friend/mentor.
We also accept other kinds of aid, you can donate money, your time and skills (such as helping with translations, fund raising, etc), or you can send a package with primary needed products directly to the orphanage. The list of needs for every orphanage you can find here.
Only the administration of an orphanage can decide to allow or forbid correspondence and contact between children and mentors/pen pals. We cooperate with administrations that support this idea, and together we try to do our best to make the lives of children happier and better.
